Golden windows glowing through the snow filled air.  This evokes memories of walking home from the bus stop in the cold winter evening. Seeking the lights glimmering through the trees. HOME!  It was a cottage on the frozen lake rather than a cabin in the words but we usually had the requisite snowman in the yard and hot chocolate by the fire.

This month my Island Batik Winter Wonderland project is a scrappy version of my pattern Cabin in the Woods!  Cabin in the Woods is available on December 1 at  The Quilt Pattern Magazine , click to get your subscription and your copy of Cabin in the Woods.

Amber's Leaves

One thing that we have bountifully, this time of year. is leaves. On a good year, our beautiful state of Michigan will dress herself out with reds, yellows and amber gold. Every year when she is tired of her finery she just sheds them on our yard. And, so starts the yearly clean up.

Amber's Leaves was inspired by a series of paintings by my niece. It seemed only fitting to name this little 12" x 42" table topper after her.

Seaside Summer Blog Hop

Just a note: Keep your comments coming until the September 7 drawing. If your comment doesn't appear its because I might not have any internet at THE LAKE this holiday weekend!

Growing up living on one of Michigan's most beautiful lakes - Higgins,  surrounded by the massive in-land seas of the Great Lakes, summer seemed forever and childhood seemed idyllic.  A move as a young adult  took me to the shore of the Chesapeake Bay, Virginia and the peace of crashing waves continued.

I could say the sand, water and seashore are just in my blood.

GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

The Sea Foam collection by Island Batik is so very, reminiscent of the varied textures and colors of growing up in a cottage, with its homey unmatched furniture and covered cushions

Wave with its beadboard-like, straight-line echo quilting, was tentatively designed as a prototype of a very large wall hanging, but grew organically out of the sea of these lovely batik fabrics into a table mat. 24" x 46"

JulyIB-WinterFleur

Summer is always a challenge to get any sewing done,  Island Batik's July challenge- holiday or winter in July, was the theme.  I chose to do a 15" table topper that can be used as a hot-pad for a casserole pan with Insul-Bright and Warm&White batting.  This snowflake-esque block is called Winter Fleur. It is a design that Mary Warner-Stone and I collaborated on for The Quilt Pattern Magazine's  July 2016 Issue.

This month's Island Batik Ambassador's challenge is Modern Batik.Modern Batik Challenge Urban Squares©  is my contribution to this fun challenge. As you can see I have not yet finished Urban Squares©  quilting. It has been a total 'challenge' to be able to make the time to sew with so much summer family activities, deadlines for 3 patterns for The Quilt Pattern Magazine,  as well as health issues.  I do look forward to sharing the finished project and announcing the pattern availability in Stone Cottage Design's Craftsy store. Please be patient!  This one is fast and fun, unless you are me!
